Posted by Anna Banana on August 01, 2009 at 12:58:43: Finally, weekend! I'll answer one by one below, but I just wanted to thank you in general, and say that I'm trying to convince myself of doing it. My boyfriend says that we just *have* to do it, because I do want to travel to different places in my life, and if I postpone this travel, I will just keep postponing all of them. But ugh... I'll try to think positive. He wants to book tickets today already. I'm so freakin' scared. Oh well, we'll see. Kerry - I do have plans of travelling to different places too, but I also pay more attention to the problems/crashes I hear of lately than to the thousands and thousands of planes that do fly every day without any problems. Yes, numbers say that aeroplanes are the safest way of travelling, but... anxiety says just the opposite! lol Oh well, maybe we can help each other. If I do manage to fly this year, I'll post here all the details, what has helped me, etc. And when you manage to fly you can do the same. Sharing fears and victories (and disappointments too) is always good. Btw, I hope you feel better from your frozen shoulders. I don't know exactly what it is, but it must be really painful. A hug from here. Joyce - You are right, putting things off is not good, and afterwards you feel really disappointed at yourself. But sometimes fear gets too strong. I have friends who tell me to take a good dose of Xanax and just get in a plane, but I guess I need that dose even to book the tickets! lol I'm already feeling bad for delaying this so much, because maybe there are no tickets left after all. Oh well, we'll see. If I do manage to travel I promise to write here about the flight and how I managed to do it. And if I don't I'll write about how disappointed I am lol Hugs! Meg - Thanks for sharing your experience! I have nothing against taking a med to feel calmer in the plane, in fact I think that's absolutely necessary for me. And I feel less anxious when I have to take care of somebody, as you said. It takes your mind off the worries. Still, I hope my boyfriend doesn't feel sick so I don't have to add that worry to those I'll already have! lol Oh well, I don't know. I'll take your advice about writing/talking about my fears, being honest about them all the time. I think that's a good idea, keeping it inside makes it worse. Well, I'll let you know if I manage to do this travel. And if I totally overcome my fear of flying and manage to travel to the US, I'll let you know! (some day, that is. I don't think that can happen soon lol). A hug for Cassius, he must be a big boy by now! (and a hug for you) Debbie - Thanks for your advice. Letting emotions and thoughts flow, accepting them, is something that I tend to forget, and it's so important. I always try to calm down, to fight the fear, and I sometimes manage to do it, but it's certainly a bigger fight that just accepting it. I'll try training my mind to do it, let's see if it works. You did a big thing, travelling despite having had panic attacks back not long ago. And now you'll be on a new flight over the ocean, wow! that's inspiring. I hope to overcome my fear of flying with time, and be able to fly more often too. I'd like to visit many places. I'll let you know what I finally decide to do. Hugs! Judy - Was that whiskey for the man, or for you? lol If I finally manage to fly, I'll try taking some music with me, and maybe a book or a notebook to write about my feelings. We'll, I'll let you know if I finally do it. Thanks for your words, and hugs! Kate - I still have to check that website, I'll do it tomorrow. It sounds good, though. Last time I travelled, what helped me tremendously was to visit the website of an actual pilot, where he explained how aeroplanes worked, why flying was safe, etc. I'll see if this website helps me too. Thanks, and hugs!
