Hi Anna,
Sorry it took so long to get back to you.

I had to fly to see my sister a year ago at Christmas, and after the flight, I really don't feel as overwhelmed by the idea of flying again.

It was the first time my son was flying (he was 1 and a half). I did take Klonapin prior to getting on the plane. I don't know how you feel about taking something to settle the anxiety, but I knew that it was something that was necessary for me at the time.
I told the stewardess that I was really afraid of flying, and instead of making me feel self-conscious, actually made me feel relief.
When the plane started to rise I was explaining everything to my son because he was incredibly curious. I was lucky that the Klonapin helped me to step outside of myself and focus on something else. I don't know what your boyfriend's medical condition is like, but if it is not too severe, and you do better taking care of others more than yourself, (which is the way I am:)maybe the focus on his comfort will allow you to forget about your own discomfort.

I also think it is a good idea to write about it as much as possible. Some may say that its not a good idea to dwell on it, but I believe...for me...the more i write or talk about it...the more it loses it's power to overwhelm me.

I don't know if this helps, but medication, along with honesty, and finding something else to focus on made it actually feel okay.
I was very surprised that my trip at my sister's was not consumed with worry over the return trip as it had a few years prior. I never thought about coming home the entire time I was with my family.
(sorry if this email is a bit choppy. I really can't communicate as well as I used to. Maybe when Cassius is 18 I'll get full use of my brain back).

I want you to be surrounded by the green of Ireland.

I believe Dawn (Vita Luna) used this when she wanted to start travelling by air. She even came to see me!

I've always kept it bookmarked - so here it is:

Hi Anna, I just wanted to say that I'm married to a retired military pilot, and we have flown together a few times. I can honestly say it's not my favorite mode of transportation, but when I had no choice, I managed to do it. The first time I flew alone, I jabbered so much to the man seated next to me, he ordered a double shot of whiskey. Then he told me that the pilot didn't want to die any more than I did! If you can distract yourself with a book, crossword puzzles, etc, it's easier. If I had to do it again I would, even if it was white-knuckle all the way, LOL. Hugs, Judy
